Chlorine Conversion
October 11, 2024
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
Consolidated Public Water Supply District No. 2 of Lafayette, Johnson and Saline Counties in conjunction with Marshall Municipal Utilities, will begin a free chlorine conversion on Tuesday, October 22, 2024. This conversion will affect all PWSD No. 2 customers in Saline County, customers north of Concordia, east of Aullville and south of the Missouri River in Lafayette County.
Throughout the year, chloramines, or combined chlorine, are added to the water as the primary disinfectant. During the conversion, chlorine only, often referred to as fee chlorine is used as the primary disinfectant. Free chlorine is a stronger disinfectant than combined chlorine.
During the conversion and flushing process, you may experience temporary changes in the taste, odor, color and water pressure. This is normal and the water will remain safe for drinking, cooking, bathing, etc. This conversion is for a brief time period and is recommended by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
